Schedule:
Based on a mix of John O’Donohue’s musings on coming home to the natural clay of our bodies, my recent explorations in the natural world and an expansion on the journalling prompt from our last Sunday sessions.
Week 1 - Coming Home to the Natural Clay of Our Bodies
Sunday 17th March 19:45, Wednesday 20th March 06:45
“The earth is not outside us; it is within: the clay from where the tree of the body grows.” - John O’Donohue
We’ll start this course welcoming the earth beneath our feet as well as feeling welcome by the earth.
Inspired by the words of John O’Donohue we’ll explore the “beautiful belonging in us to the world of nature.” If we know ourselves well enough, we may be able to imagine where the clay of our bodies lay before we took form. Were you made from the soft earth beside a tranquil calm lake, a rocky cliff edge overlooking the crashing North sea or perhaps the rich soil of your great grandmother’s garden?
Week 2 - Inner and Outer Ease
Sunday 24th March 19:45, Wednesday 27th March 06:45
Part of coming home to our bodies is finding a place of ease within ourselves. Physically this can mean a state of comfort - how can we find ease in movement including more challenging poses? Mentally and emotionally cultivating inner ease helps us find a flowing, open state where we can take the ups and downs of life in our stride.
As well as a yoga practice to encourage ease through our bodies, we’ll learn a scientifically based practice to cultivate a state of inner ease in our minds, emotions and physiology. .
“In contrast to our frenetic, saturated lives, the earth offers a calming stillness. Movement and growth in nature takes time. The patience of nature enjoys the ease of trust and hope. There is something in our clay nature that needs to continually experience this ancient, outer ease of the world. It helps us remember who we are and why we are here.”
―John O'Donohue, Beauty: The Invisible Embrace
Week 3 - The Memories Held In Our Clay
Sunday 31st March 19:45, Wednesday 3rd April 06:45
Building on the idea that our bodies may be made of clay which had a memory before we were formed, we’ll look at how the emotions that pass through us may not always belong to us, and may, at times, belong “more to our clay than to our mind”, as such we can allow these inner climates to pass through us on their way elsewhere.
Week 4 - Integration, Sound Healing
Sunday 7th April 19:45
The wonderful Mia Macallister from Nature’s Resonance will join us for our last session as we integrate all we have practised. We’ll rest back on the earth and allow the natural intelligence of the clay of our bodies and the clay of the earth beneath us weave their healing threads.
FAQs
I didn’t participate in the last Unwinding Club, is it ok to join this series? Yes, of course. There are no prerequisites, and it would be wonderful to have some new faces join us.
Sometimes I can find group speaking and sharing intimidating. Although we gather together in a group, the work in this series is self explorative and you are encouraged to record your findings in a journal. There is no pressure to share publicly (although we welcome contributions if you feel called to).
Can I join as a complete beginner to yoga? Yes! All of our yoga will be composed of gentle movements suitable for beginners and more experienced practitioners alike. Our Wednesday morning sessions will be a little more challenging than our Sunday evening sessions, but with a little practice you’ll soon find your feet.
What if I can’t make one of the sessions? Sessions will be recorded which means if you can’t make it for any reason, I’ll send you the practice video and inquiry prompts to do in your own time.
How do I find the zoom link?
The scheduling system will automatically send you an email which includes the meeting link. I believe each session will have it’s own zoom meeting link so be sure to click on your most recent email each time.
Do I need to have my camera on with Zoom?
Choose whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Whilst it is wonderful and connecting for me to see your face at the beginning, I understand that you might feel more comfortable during your yoga and writing practice by creating more privacy and switching off your camera.
Do I need to bring anything?
Journal and a pen.
Find a comfy padded space to practice, whether that’s a yoga mat, folded blanket or carpet.
Soft support - cushions, folded blankets and a bolster may be useful. If you don’t have a bolster you can use a sofa cushion, or try stuffing two pillows into one pillow case.
Make a ritual of it by lighting a candle, sipping a warm drink or perhaps using a diffuser for some aromatherapy.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you feel you would benefit from this course but currently find yourself unable to afford it, please get in touch and we can make a plan to suit your circumstances.
Much love,
Camille
